CD REVIEW: Toxic Shock Syndrome: Dead Animal Sodomy

Driven by dark resonant rhythms, haunting melodies and aggressive vocals, Toxic Shock Syndrome is one of the better examples of electronic/industrial music that I have heard recently. The cd Dead Animal Sodomy captured my interest with its ominously inviting soundscapes.

The first track "The Gate" opens with the feel of a strange ancient ritual.
Slowly the pace quickens and a beat emerges, trailing an empty feeling behind it like a shadow. The song "Manipulate" begins more insistently, drawing you into the darkly futuristic sound.
The droning beat and intense, yet sparse vocals add a hectic energy to this song.
Track six "Trial:Fire" is a cultish instrumental piece. creating the feeling of spirits hovering nearby at the end of life. Track eight "Specimen" combines an intense hypnotic beat with a subdued, creepy melody. The haunting delivery of the deep, suicidal vocals opens a leering chasm within, attempting to drag you down into the abyss. Toxic Shock Syndrome is a very talented band, and I will definitely be looking for more of their music in the future.
